I’ve seen that photograph
so many times today. The first time
took my breath away but then
just like everyone else: how terrible,
click away. Remember Tunisia?
I felt sick about that too
and Bangkok bomb blasts
that shook my friends for
five minutes. News teams
on camera on camera
and those are just the stories that
grab us by the collars and
don’t let go. What about the ones
that fail to catch us as we slip on by
preoccupied with living? I’m
walking home and typing and all
that’s running through my mind
real-time is that with every step
I take someone else is dead.
They’re burning for the Hungry Ghosts
in Hong Kong and I feel them
at my back, not just on my screen.
